Class of 2009
Erin O'Hare

"I really miss writing my senior thesis," Erin says. "That's the ultimate nerdy thing to say, but I loved having the freedom to pursue what I was interested in, and I always had the resources I needed. My thesis advisors, professors [Donald] McColl and [Kathryn] Moncrief, were so supportive."
Her thesis, "If thou hast eyes to see": The Iconoclastic Appropriation of the Image on the Early Modern English Stage," combined visual theory work with an examination of the literature.
The double major in English and art history will soon be back at the books: this fall, she is enrolling in University of Virginia's MA program in English literature with a concentration in Early modern literature.
"Dr. McColl actually introduced me to the UVA program in English," Erin says. McColl earned a Ph.D. in art history there. He knew she was certainly capable. A member of the Cater Society of Junior Fellows and a Sigma Tau Delta inductee, Erin had studied at Royal Holloway, University of London. On campus, she was editor-in-chief of The Medium, served on The Collegian staff, and worked in the College's Writing Center.
Ultimately, Erin wants to work in publishing. She deferred her acceptance into Columbia University's publishing course for the opportunity to study at UVA, but has her sights set on working for an academic journal focused on Renaissance literature.
